Wolves failed with £17m approach for long-term target in summer window as January claim made

Wolves’ summer transfer window left a lot to be desired.

Fosun may have brought in seven new players, but whether those are upgrades on the plethora of talent that has left is still up in the air.

The ownership feel confident about their transfer business, and they have high hopes for the future of the club.

However, one particular deal did not work out for the Molineux side, as they failed to land a long-term target.

A report has now revealed more details surrounding the transfer, and it shows the club did all they could to sign him.

Wolves have been chasing Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas for quite some time.

The Old Gold were first linked to Mandas in 2024, as they sought to upgrade on current ‘keeper Jose Sa.

However, their pursuit was unsuccessful after failing to meet Lazio’s asking price.

A report has now emerged from Italy suggesting Wolves met their valuation this summer, but the bid was still rejected.

Italian publication Corriere dello Sport has revealed that Wolves ‘came forward for Mandas with an offer of around €20 million (£17 million), which matches the club’s valuation.’

Lazio are currently under a transfer ban, meaning they did not want to risk selling any of their key squad members, hence the rejection.

Lazio will be allowed to sign players in January which could open the door for Wolves to make another move.

Wolves could return for Christos Mandas in January

Lazio’s transfer ban is over, and that means they could be open to letting Mandas leave.

The report suggests that the upcoming months will ‘define the situation ahead of January’ and that ‘the management is also considering’ sanctioning a sale.

Mandas previously made his feelings known about a move to Wolves, and the 23-year-old could become the long-term successor to Jose Sa.

Currently, the Greek goalkeeper is playing second fiddle to Ivan Provedel, so if the Old Gold are to try to convince him to make the switch, they may have to promise him a starting role.
