Wolves eyeing summer move for ‘blistering’ £38m ace amid exciting season in Portugal

Wolves are said to be keeping tabs on SC Braga youngster Rodrigo Gomes ahead of the summer transfer window.

Wolves were unable to do anything significant in the last window having still been restricted due to their financial situation.

The club have seen Everton get docked points this term for failing to comply with spending rules, and Nottingham Forest could suffer a similar fate.

The club therefore didn’t have much wiggle room, and only Noha Lemina – younger brother of Mario – was brought in from Paris Saint-Germain.

In the summer, Wolves should be able to spend a bit more freely – and apparently, Gomes is on the club’s radar…

The Express & Star reported last night that Wolves were keeping tabs on Gomes, a 20-year-old right winger or wing-back.

Gomes has enjoyed a good season so far out on loan at Estoril, scoring six goals and making seven assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.

His efforts have helped to give Estoril a fighting chance, with the club currently hovering just above the relegation zone on goal difference.

Gomes’ parent club Braga are currently in fourth and therefore in contention for European football. Whether Gomes would stick around to be a part of any European football with Braga next season though remains to be seen.

Wolves are said to be ‘weighing up’ a move for Gomes, who is said to have ‘blistering pace’.

This follows a claim last month from Portugal that Wanderers had actually submitted a £12.8 million bid for the player.

Gomes is a talent, but he could be expensive

So it seems there is a genuine interest in Gomes, with local outlet the Express & Star now reporting on him.

Wolves certainly need to be bringing in another wide player this summer, because we are seeing that Gary O’Neil‘s current pool of options just isn’t enough.

Pedro Neto and Hwang Hee-chan, as brilliant as they are, are both injury-prone.

It’s obviously very possible that Neto could actually leave the club this summer and if that happens, Gomes might be the first port of call.

He’d be pricey, as he has a reported £38 million release clause. But Neto will likely go for big money which would offset that.
