Wolves eyeing ‘complete’ £21m striker with 17 goals and assists already this season

Wolves are reportedly already looking towards the summer transfer window, with Gary O’Neil’s side linked with Wolfsburg striker Jonas Wind by outlets in Germany.

Wolves have succeeded expectations already this season following their difficult summer in the aftermath of the 2022/23 campaign.

Gary O’Neil took the reins from Julen Lopetegui just five days before the 2023/24 Premier League schedule commenced, leaving the Englishman little time to prepare for the challenges ahead.

Thankfully, the Old Gold discovered that O’Neil didn’t need time to succeed at Molineux, with his side currently sitting just four points off seventh and one win away from an FA Cup semi-final outing at Wembley.

Despite the positives shown this season, Wolves will want a strong summer of business to complement their efforts this term to allow the boss to continue to progress.

Putting last summer’s financial restraints aside, the club will hope to be able to sanction some moves ahead of the 2024/25 campaign to bolster the limited squad.

Wolves are interested in Wolfsburg striker Jonas Wind

It looks as though O’Neil has already started his hunt for a new forward, with reports in Germany naming Wolfsburg talisman Jonas Wind as a potential candidate.

As reported by Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, Wolves and Fulham are said to ‘have their eye’ on the 25-year-old who joined Wolfsburg in January 2022 from FC Copenhagen.

The report details that the forward is valued at approximately €25m (£21m), with the Bundesliga outfit wanting a ‘lucrative economic deal’ in order to sell their prized asset.

What Wolves could expect from Jonas Wind

Deployed primarily as a centre-forward, Wind epitomises what O’Neil is searching for in a number nine.

In 27 appearances in all competitions this season, the 25-year-old has secured 17 goal contributions, scoring 10 and assisting seven to flex his ability in the final third.

Once lauded as “complete” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, the Denmark international could give Wolves the leading presence that they’ve been craving for some time, a figure to fill the void left by Raul Jimenez’s pre-injury form.

Standing at 6 foot 2, Wind’s style of play is heavily influenced by his physicality, as per Total Football Analysis, a trait that could fit Wolves’ approach.

With ball-carriers and pacey assets such as Pedro Neto and Matheus Cunha, introducing an assured goalscorer with a presence in the box could hand O’Neil the missing piece to his Molineux puzzle.

Interestingly, Kulig once compared Wind to Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund, a striker who is showing his worth at Premier League level after taking similar career steps to the rumoured Wolves target.

After failing to sign a forward in both the summer and in January, O’Neil will be on the prowl to secure the striker that his squad craves when the transfer window opens.
