Wolves eyeing £15m move for ‘unstoppable’ goalkeeper, he’s clear of Jose Sa in one key area

Vitor Pereira has almost completed a rescue job at Wolves, as his side opened up a 12-point buffer on 18th-place Ipswich Town after Saturday’s 2-1 win.

The Wanderers have pieced together a three-match winning streak, posting victories over Southampton, West Ham and Ipswich Town.

It means that Wolves fans will breathe a sigh of relief while Vitor Pereira can look ahead to the summer transfer window, with plenty of activity anticipated.

Reports indicate that Wolves want to sign at least one number 10, someone probably quick and capable of gliding past players.

But that isn’t the only position Pereira will be targeting, as the Old Gold could look at signing a goalkeeper to rival Jose Sa and Sam Johnstone.

Wolves, Newcastle and Brentford have scouted Yahia Fofana

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Wolves, Newcastle and Brentford have all scouted Angers SC goalkeeper Yahia Fofana during their 1-0 loss to PSG this weekend.

The 24-year-old, who has the best post-shot expected goals of any goalkeeper in Europe’s top five leagues, has started every Ligue 1 game this term.

Remarkably, when comparing his statistics per game against Wolves’ current number one Sa, Fofana outperforms the Portuguese international for saves inside the box, save percentage and even his distribution, posting a better rate of accurate long balls.

The above metrics will encourage Wolves fans as will his price tag, with Fofana reportedly available for around £15 million in the summer transfer window, as reported by Alan Nixon in November 2024.

So, with the Ivory Coast international entering the final year of his contract, Angers can either cash in on the player or risk losing him on a free transfer.

Wolves should replace Sa with Fofana

Links to Fofana suggest that Pereira isn’t currently happy with his goalkeeping choices, with Sa and Johnstone battling for the number one spot.

Sa has been the preferred goalkeeper under the Portuguese tactician and he sadly hasn’t covered himself in glory this term.

In the defeat to Fulham in February, Sa was lauded as ‘ridiculous’ for his error as he was caught in no mans land before Rodrigo Muniz capitalised with a smart finish.

The 32-year-old was also arguably at fault for Liam Delap’s goal against Ipswich on Saturday as he failed to read the danger in time and position himself incorrectly to snub the opportunity.

Unfortunately, there have been too many types of those errors this season and if Wolves are to climb up the table in 2025/26, improving the goalkeeper position should be on Pereira’s agenda.

And as Fofana has been dubbed ‘unstoppable’, the 24-year-old could the be perfect man to challenge Sa, or perhaps even grab the number one jersey.
