Wolves showed an interest in Flamengo’s Wesley before the defender agreed a deal with Roma, sources close to Molineux News understand.
The talking point in the transfer window at Wolves is on finding players to replace those who have departed.
It’s a recurring theme at Molineux, with the current search being to identify a replacement for Nelson Semedo.
Wolves offered Semedo an attractive contract, but the Portugal international has yet to respond, prompting Vitor Pereira to move on and find a successor.

Wolves showed an interest in Wesley before Roma transfer
The Old Gold thought they’d found their successor to Semedo in the form of Marc Pubill, who almost signed for Wolves before Atletico Madrid spoiled the party.
Atletico Madrid hijacked Pubill’s transfer, sending Wolves back to square one.
While the West Midlands club licked their wounds after missing out on the talented Spanish defender, Pereira missed out on yet another target.
Sources close to Molineux News understand that Wolves showed an interest in Brazilian right-back Wesley of Flamengo.
Given Wolves’ recent success in the Brazilian market and their need for a right-back, Wesley would’ve been the perfect acquisition, but it wasn’t meant to be.
Instead of making the move to Molineux, the 21-year-old is set to sign for Roma, as sources understand that the Italian club ‘won the race’ against Wolves for the Flamengo star.
Wesley would’ve been perfect for Wolves
Pereira doesn’t just want a right-back, but wants a player who will fit seamlessly into the formation that Wolves play.
This means that a full-back capable of playing as a wing-back is essential, which is just what Wesley is.
As per data gathered by FBref, the Brazilian ranks highly when it comes to his average of progressive carries and successful take-ons per 90, being a player who loves to get forward.
This is reflected through his form for Flamengo in the 2025 Brazilian Serie A, where he’s contributed to three goals in only 11 appearances from right-back.
Talent scout Antonio Mango saw the potential unearthing in Rio de Janeiro in the form of Wesley, whom he described as ‘exceptional’ and consistent.
Roma will benefit from the player, who is in Rome to sign a deal with the Italian club while Wolves’ search continues.
