Wolves eye another Brazilian wonderkid but face competition from Spurs and Newcastle

Wolves are set to target another Brazilian wonderkid but face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Spurs and Newcastle.

In recent years, Wolves have been more than happy to dip into the South American market. Many of the club’s biggest stars now come from the continent with O’Neil’s side boasting a big Brazilian presence.

Over the last year-and-a-half, Wolves have brought in three Brazilians. Matheus Cunha was the first, who is now being tipped to become the next captain. Following the attacker was Joao Gomes, who has become a permanent presence in the starting XI.

This summer, Pedro Lima signed for Wolves. The full-back is widely regarded to be a sensational upcoming talent, being just 18 years old.

Now, it has been reported that Wolves are looking to bring in another Brazilian youngster this summer with Marcus Vinnicius catching the club’s eye.

Wolves face competition to sign Marcus Vinnicius

Vinnicius currently makes his trade for Brazilian outfit Palmeiras. Over the years, the Sao Paulo-based club have become one of the leading producers of world-class footballers.

Real Madrid attacker Endrick recently signed for the Spanish giants while Luis Guilherme signed for West Ham and Estevao Willian joined Chelsea.

Now, it seems as if the club have produced their next big talent. According to The Sun, Wolves are one of many clubs looking to sign Vinnicius.

The 17-year-old, who can also play on the wing, is set to sign a one-year deal at Palmeiras this summer. He is expected to have a £85 million release clause in his contract. However, Palmerias are open to negotiating a deal.

Wolves also face competition for his signature with Spurs, Newcastle and Benfica are interested in the Brazilian.

Wolves must be wary over the potential cost of Marcus Vinnicius

A big issue Wolves must be wary of is the potential cost of youngster. While Vinnicius no doubt has potential, he may never reach the heights expected of him.

Wolves fell into this trap earlier this decade when they broke their transfer record to sign Fabio Silva who is now an outcast at the club.

Palmeiras typically demand big fees for their stars and O’Neil’s side needs to ensure they do not get carried away if they try and bid for the Brazilian.

With Wolves operating on a self-sustainable model, they cannot afford to throw another £30 million at a youngster.
