Wolves enquiry could lead to exciting January move for Lazio attacker

In the quiet of the international break, it provides an opportunity for Wolves to look ahead to the winter window.

Wolves are already looking ahead to the reopening of the market, with Fosun holding transfer planning meetings this week.

The club is backing Vitor Pereira, so the next step is figuring out how to give him the best possible chance with shrewd business.

That could involve going back in for a summer target who is likely to leave in January.

Wolves target Taty Castellanos given the green light to leave

Late last season, links emerged between Wolves and Lazio forward Taty Castellanos.

The Argentinian managed 19 goal involvements for Maurizio Sarri’s side last season, and he has kicked off the new campaign in even better form, contributing to five in six games in Serie A.

Like many others, Wolves reached out to Lazio about a potential move, but the Italian side were then hit with a transfer ban that closed the door on discussions.

But according to Italian outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi, a deal could be back on the table in January.

They write: “In January, however, if there were the possibility of making a zero-fee purchase, the club could sell the Argentine for a €30-35 million offer, with Sarri giving the green light. This would, of course, be conditional on a worthy replacement in attack.”

Lazio are already seeking a forward addition, which is only made possible by a sale. It sounds like he’s gettable, and the £25 million fee Wolves were considering in the summer should be enough to get it done.

Wolves will face competition from as many as six clubs

As much as the player’s availability is a good omen, Wolves will need to stave off competition from other European clubs.

As the report reveals: “Between June and July, Villarreal, Real Betis, Nottingham Forest, Everton, Burnley, West Ham, and Wolverhampton Wanderers had made inquiries.”

Plenty of Premier League sides have identified Castellanos as a target, which suggests he has the qualities to do well in England.

With Pereira’s decision to change the system, the wide areas of the front three become increasingly important. The 27-year-old can play on the left and through the middle, so he would be great for depth.

Wolves need a wide player in January, and if they can beat this collection of clubs to the punch, Castellanos could be a solid addition.
