Wolves defender Justin Hubner completes loan move to J League side Cerezo Osaka

Young Wolves central defender Justin Hubner has today completed a move to J League outfit Cerezo Osaka.

The Indonesia international – who represented his country at the Asia Cup recently – has been confirmed as a new signing this morning by the Japanese club.

Hubner has also shared a couple of posts from Cerezo and the J League about the news on his Instagram Story.

Hubner, who was born in the Netherlands, will now have the opportunity to experience senior football at club level for the first time in his career. The 20-year-old joined Wolves in 2020 from Dutch outfit Den Bosch, and has been developing in the academy ever since.

This morning, Cerezo Osaka announced via their website that the player has sealed a move to them, with Hunber having obtained a visa.

It is stated that the transfer period will be until the end of the current season, which has just started and ends in December.

Hubner will join up with the team after the next international break, with the defender having been called up by Indonesia for their two World Cup qualifiers against Vietnam.

Cerezo quote Hubner as saying: “I’m very happy to be joining Cerezo Osaka, and I can’t wait to meet the fans and supporters and show them how to play. Let’s have a great season!”

Wolves themselves have now announced the news of Hubner’s move.

So far this season, Cerezo have taken five points from their first three league games and currently sit sixth in the table, two points off the top.

A good opportunity for Hubner

So Hubner will now get the chance to play regular men’s football, and the hope for Wolves officials is that this really furthers his development.

Back in February 2023, Jon Hunter-Barrett suggested Hubner was set for a loan move that summer. It didn’t happen then, but clearly, Wolves feel this is now the right opportunity for the player.

Hubner, who Hunter-Barrett has previously described as being ‘rock solid’, and ‘excellent in one-on-one situations’, has impressed at youth level for Wolves and it is now time for him to bring his game on, if he is to potentially make himself an option for Gary O’Neil in the first-team.

It should be a good experience for him. Hubner was the captain of the U21s for Wolves and hopefully, he can show his leadership qualities at his new club and settle in nice and quickly.
