Wolves decision speaks volumes about Jhon Arias’ role under Rob Edwards

Jhon Arias has struggled to settle into life at Wolves, which has built speculation around his future.

Wolves’ summer transfer business has come under the microscope after the winless start to the season.

Jhon Arias has been one of the players to suffer from criticism after failing to live up to all the hype surrounding his move.

This has led to Flamengo and other clubs keeping an eye on Arias just three months after his arrival at Molineux, with a move in January being talked about.

Keep or sell Jhon Arias in January?

However, he now has a fresh opportunity to really impress new manager Rob Edwards after being announced as Vitor Pereira’s replacement.

And the early signs are already positive after Arias’ impressive display for Colombia against New Zealand during the international break.

Wolves decide Jhon Arias won’t be leaving in January

Any future speculation around Jhon Arias may have been put to bed after it was claimed that he won’t be leaving at all in January. Should this be true, it’s a real statement from Wolves to lay down a marker down.

Jhon Arias was only recently quoted speaking defiantly amid his Wolves struggles

“Would I sign for Wolves again? Yes, totally. I’m very calm about my decision. I knew there would be difficulties, but I like a challenge because they’re the best way to grow and learn, by stepping out of your comfort zone. Days of glory and joy will come.”

Despite all the negativity and frustration that Arias may have felt at times under Vitor Pereira, it’s refreshing to see he still wants to remain at the club.

Early January decision shows Jhon Arias is very much a part of Rob Edwards’ plans

Jhon Arias has started nine of his 12 Wolves games but has so far come up with zero goal contributions.

However, the fact that he’s being kept at the club until the end of the season shows that Rob Edwards clearly has a plan for the attacking midfielder.

Fer Lopez and Arias are currently the only two creative outlets available to Rob Edwards as Matheus Cunha’s absence continues to be felt.

He’s created 2.8 shots per game for teammates, but that’s nothing compared to the 5.8 shots per game created during his time in Brazil last season.

He showed his class in the summer during the Club World Cup, where even Enzo Fernandez hailed the performances of Arias.

But typical of Wolves’ season, Arias ranked fifth for tackles in the Premier League which shows just how much defending he’s had to do.
