Wolves dealt sucker blow as £16m target undergoing medical with European giants today

Wolves are gearing up for the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, and currently, they’re still a long way off matching Vitor Pereira’s ambition.

Although Wolves are close to signing Jhon Arias on a permanent transfer from Fluminense, the Old Gold still need many more reinforcements to build a competitive squad after only capturing Fer Lopez so far.

Vitor Pereira has directed his frustrations at Fosun, as the Portuguese boss harnesses ambitions of pushing the Wanderers towards mid-table, yet at least another five additions are required.

Wolves need a deep-lying midfielder to challenge the indispensable duo of Andre and Joao Gomes, a left wing-back to compete with Hugo Bueno, as well as a striker to offer support to Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Pereira is also crying out for a right-wing-back after Nelson Semedo’s contract expired, but unfortunately, one of their top targets has slipped away from them.

Wolves target Marc Pubill is undergoing medical at AC Milan

With Semedo set to leave Molineux as he continues to train alone in Portugal, Wolves were pushing to sign Marc Pubill, the 22-year-old from Spanish side Almeria.

Liam Keen claimed that Wolves opened talks with Pubill, seeing him as a long-term replacement for their captain and a source of physicality down the right flank.

Unfortunately, interest from European giants AC Milan was always going to present a major stumbling block, and Tutto Mercato journalist Giacomo Iacobellis has revealed the talented right-back is currently undergoing a medical in Barcelona ahead of a move to the Italian side.

“Marc Pubill is undergoing a medical examination with #Milan at a clinic in Barcelona,” Iacobellis wrote.

This all but ends Wolves’ hopes of capturing Pubill, who has been valued at £16 million by Almeria following their promotion back to La Liga.

So, with the promising right-back closing in on a move to Milan, Pereira has to direct his focus towards other targets and hammer home the urgency to get business done.

Fosun must learn from previous mistake

Semedo was an incredibly important player for Wolves, not just for his quality as an attacking force but for his leadership and ability to bring the squad together.

His departure will leave a huge void in the dressing room hierarchy and also on the pitch, where the likes of Rodrigo Gomes, Ki-Jana Hoever and Pedro Lima are competing for a place in the team as it stands.

Realistically, neither of those three can match the output Semedo offered Wolves down the right, emphasising the importance of signing a replacement.

Being snubbed by Pubill puts Wolves in a familiar position to last summer, where Max Kilman and Pedro Neto were sold. Gary O’Neil was scouring the market for replacements, and to no fault of his own, the club left it until the last minute and ended up signing no one capable of filling the hole.

A similar narrative could play out here if the Old Gold don’t nail down a successor to Semedo’s position, and arguably someone to compete with Bueno on the left after Rayan Ait-Nouri’s exit.

That is why Wolves can’t waste any time after losing out on Pubill, with urgency required to sign someone before their season opener against Manchester City on August 16.
