Wolves are prioritising moves for another number 10 and a wing-back in the summer transfer window, but strengthening in central midfield is equally as important.
Tommy Doyle is likely to leave Wolves after only signing permanently for the club in 2024. The deep-lying playmaker was frozen out under Vitor Pereira and is wanted by numerous teams.
Birmingham City are currently leading the race for Doyle, who are showing ambition on their return to the Championship, and he isn’t the only player on the chopping block.
With Boubacar Traore also facing an uncertain future, it’s no surprise that Pereira is targeting a new deep-lying midfielder to challenge the unbreakable duo of Joao Gomes and Andre.
Wolves have been linked with Rangers dynamo Nicolas Raskin. Though a bid isn’t expected for the Belgian anytime soon, he isn’t the only player on their radar.

Real Betis want Wolves target Morten Frendrup to replace Johnny Cardoso
In their search for possible midfielders to challenge, Wolves have shown long-term interest in Johnny Cardoso.
Unfortunately, despite offering to triple Cardoso’s wages for him to leave Real Betis this summer, the 23-year-old appears to be moving elsewhere.
Atletico Madrid are closing in on the £25m transfer for Cardoso, with the midfielder set to leave Betis after just two seasons.
Worryingly, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Spanish side have identified Wolves target Morten Frendrup as a possible replacement for the USMNT international.
Frendrup is valued at around £17 million and emerged as one of the best defensive midfielders in Serie A last term after making the most tackles in the competition.
Rank | Player | Club | Number of tackles |
1 | M. Frendrup | Genoa | 103 |
2 | N. Rovella | Lazio | 85 |
3 | R. Freuler | Bologna | 79 |
4 | M. de Roon | Atalanta | 73 |
5 | M. Locatelli | Juventus | 71 |
The Genoa star would have offered excellent competition for Andre in the middle of the park, but with Betis now in the race for his signature, a move looks increasingly unlikely.

Real Betis can offer Frendrup European football
Fosun accepts that Wolves need a rebuild this summer, which suggests the money received from the sales of Rayan Ait-Nouri and Matheus Cunha will be spent on improving the squad.
But after finishing 16th in the Premier League, the Old Gold will find it difficult to compete against teams that can offer European football in 2025/26.
Take Real Betis as an example, they finished in sixth position last term to guarantee themselves a spot in the Europa League.
That arguably makes them more of an attractive proposition than Wolves, who would need to use the lure of Premier League football as a bargaining chip to join.
Realistically, Betis showing an interest in Frendrup could scupper the Wanderers’ chances of landing him.
