Wolves currently want double what club are offering for £60k-a-week player

Wolves could sanction several exits on transfer deadline day.

It is set to be a very busy day at Molineux, with a few new faces expected to come in, after Bastien Meupiyou was signed yesterday.

By the close of play today we will be seeing Sam Johnstone and Andre completing their moves to Molineux. But Wolves could also bring in a new centre-back and a wide forward.

Sporting director Matt Hobbs is in for a very busy day, with outgoings to sort as well.

One man who could yet leave before tonight’s 11pm deadline, or potential after given the club that is after him, is Daniel Podence.

He has featured in all three of Wolves’ games so far this season, but Daniel Podence could still be departing today.

Gary O’Neil said after the win over Burnley that he expected the player to stay.

But he remains a target for the Saudi club Al-Shabab, and there is word from journalist Ben Jacobs this morning about the club’s pursuit of the Portuguese.

He writes on X: “No guarantee Daniel Podence leaves Wolves. Al-Shabab only want to pay €5m. Wolves want double.

“Talks not yet advanced, with Wolves feeling Podence could just stay. Al-Shabab have until September 2 as Wolves wait to see if a formal bid is tabled.”

Wolves should try to keep Podence

Al-Shabab are obviously keen to sign Podence, and that is understandable given the level he showed last season.

Wolves should really be trying to stop £60,000-a-week ace Podence from leaving. We have seen already this season what he could bring to the squad. Against Burnley the other night, he was fantastic.

Wolves would lose Podence for free next summer if he stayed. But it could be almost worth just holding onto him, as he could bring qualities that are invaluable.

We will see what happens, but it would be no disaster if his move to Al-Shabab did not happen.
