Wolves’ current stance on potentially signing a second centre-back after Emmanuel Agbadou transfer

Wolves fans were delighted to see the club make their first signing of the January transfer last week.

After much speculation, Emmanuel Agbadou completed his move to Wolves from Reims, and the Ivorian has already made his debut for the club.

Agbadou played a full game against Bristol City in the FA Cup on Saturday, and made a decent impression at Ashton Gate.

Pereira praised Agbadou, and he will potentially have a good impact on a backline that has been very shaky at times this season.

But Wolves fans are wondering if another defender will follow Agbadou to Molineux.

After all, it was claimed at the start of the window that Wolves wanted to sign two defenders for Pereira this month – and Molineux News can now provide an update.

It was always going to be important for Wolves to get a defender in fairly early in the January window.

Wolves completed a move for Agbadou last week and he’s already managed to get minutes under his belt ahead of a tough Premier League game against Newcastle United on Wednesday.

Sources have informed Molineux News that Wolves are still looking for a second defender to arrive this month.

But regarding the club’s urgency over this, at the moment Wolves are relaxed, having got Agbadou over the line. They are not scrambling, and it could be that if a second centre-back is to sign, then it’ll be towards the end of the window.

We have been told that Brighton’s Adam Webster is a player Wolves like and have done for a while. He’s a potential option for Wanderers, but injuries have limited him to seven appearances this season and that could put Wolves off.

Webster made his return to action for Brighton against Arsenal recently after two months out, and he started their FA Cup third-round match against Norwich City at the weekend, playing 77 minutes.

Wolves need a second centre-back unless Bastien Meupiyou emerges

Wolves could potentially do with that second centre-back to come in this month, because we know that Craig Dawson has struggled with his fitness in recent times, which is to be expected at 34.

Toti Gomes also picked up a hamstring injury recently, so we have seen Pereira field a makeshift defence for the past couple of games.

Agbadou coming in is a big boost, but Wolves could do with following him up with someone else.

Or it may well be that Bastien Meupiyou, who signed in the summer from Nantes, emerges as an option for the second half of the season.

The French talent has not yet made his debut for the first-team. But Meupiyou has been training with Pereira’s squad and may well have a part to play.
