Wolves are now ‘open to’ selling £30k-a-week star amid Man Utd and Liverpool interest

Wolves could yet sell one of their key players this summer, with a number of clubs interested in snapping him up.

Wolves sold their first player of the summer last week, as Max Kilman completed a £40 million move to West Ham United.

The captain left the club after six years, and Gary O’Neil will now need to decide on a new skipper, with Mario Lemina, Matheus Cunha and Craig Dawson the top candidates.

There has been more speculation about Pedro Neto and how he could be the next ‘big’ sale at Molineux. Rayan Ait-Nouri has also emerged as a target for top clubs.

But there has also been some talk about Joao Gomes – and one journalist has made a slightly worrying claim about the Brazilian.

Joao Gomes established himself as a regular in the Wolves first-team last season under O’Neil.

The 23-year-old became the regular partner of Lemina, taking Ruben Neves’ old number eight shirt. He really impressed with his ball-winning ability in particular, and fans adore his work rate.

The club are excited about how good he could become.

In recent days, it was claimed that Gomes is now attracting attention from Liverpool and Bayern Munich, with Manchester United and Arsenal having already been linked earlier this year.

It has been suggested that Wolves would not sell for under £60 million.

Yesterday evening, journalist Rudy Galetti provided some more information. And he suggests that Gomes has not been deemed unsellable by Wolves.

He wrote on X: “Liverpool, #Tottenham, #Arsenal and #ManUTD have all shown interest in Joao #Gomes. Wolves are open to letting him go this summer for a suitable bid.”

Gomes should be deemed unsellable by Wolves

We all know that Wolves are looking to become self-sustaining and that big offers for players will be considered this summer.

This is a slightly concerning claim, because Gomes is arguably one of the few players who should actually be deemed unsellable.

The £30,000-a-week man known as The Pitbull has been a total breath of fresh air in the midfield this summer and is the perfect complement to Lemina in the engine room.

Gomes only came to England in January 2023, but he looks like he has been playing Premier League football for years. His game is totally suited to the English top flight.

If he is this good now, then potentially he could become very special after another season with Wolves and this is why selling him now should not be entertained whatsoever.
