Wolves supporters are in for a thrilling January transfer window as several players have already been linked with moves to Molineux.
The focus for Vitor Pereira is strengthening a defence that has conceded a whopping 42 goals in 19 matches this term.
As a result, Wolves have held talks with top target Kevin Danso and are also eyeing a £16.5m transfer for Emmanuel Agbadou.
Wolves want to sign at least two defenders and their pursuit of the above duo looks promising however, centre-back isn’t the only position Pereira is eyeing.
According to reports from Brazil, the Old Gold could land a midfielder to rival the likes of Joao Gomes, Andre, Tommy Doyle and Mario Lemina.

Wolves prioritising transfer for Flamengo midfielder Gerson
Wolves have had huge success shopping for Brazilian talent. Matheus Cunha signed from Atletico Madrid, Andre was lured from Fluminense and Gomes arrived from Flamengo.
Now, per Brazilian journalist Paparazzo Rubro-Negro on X, Wolves could repeat the trick of signing Gomes from Flamengo for £15 million by capturing his former teammate Gerson.
The post reads: “Vítor Pereira, former commander of Rubro-Negro, the English club is looking to sign Gerson, midfielder and current captain of Mais Querido.”
The 27-year-old, who currently captains the South American giants, is reportedly a priority transfer for Pereira to complete as he eyes an advanced playmaker.
Interestingly, Pereira worked with Gerson during his short spell at Flamengo from January to April 2023 and perhaps this is the reason why there is interest.
Also, the exciting midfielder has established himself as a Brazil international having made 11 caps and featured in their last six World Cup qualifiers, even scoring in a 1-1 draw against Uruguay.
On top of eyeing Gerson, the same journalist claims that Pereira has a plan B if they don’t sign the Flamengo star, and that is a move for Richard Rios from Palmeiras.
Gerson’s statistics for Flamengo
To land another incredible Brazil international to add to their current midfield talents would be an excellent coup for Pereira.
Unlike Gomes and Andre, Gerson is more of a creative force centrally, assisting eight times across all competitions in 2024 as Flamengo finished third in the Brazilian Serie A.
Gerson’s statistics for Flamengo |
225 games |
17 goals |
30 assists |
While he’s currently plying his trade in the top division of Brazil, Gerson has also played for European sides Marseille and Roma.
Remarkably, during his spell in Ligue 1, the international star produced some impressive stats, scoring 13 and assisting 10 in 61 matches for Marseille.
So, with Mario Lemina potentially departing to Al Shabab, Pereira could land a huge upgrade on the 31-year-old by signing Gerson.
