Wolves could reignite interest in Aston Villa defender during the January transfer window

Wolves could reignite interest in two defenders during the January transfer window as their pursuit for a new centre-half begins.

This next month will no doubt see many twists and turns for the Old Gold in the transfer market.

Sam Johnstone has already been linked away from Wolves just months after signing.

On top of this, Wolves face a battle to keep Matheus Cunha amid significant interest.

However, one position that undoubtedly needs reinforcements is the Old Gold’s backlines.

Thankfully, now Vitro Pereira’s side have been linked with two additional defenders who could join Wolves this month.

Wolves’ defensive issues have plagued the current campaign. Despite the performances of Cunha and Jorgen Strand Larsen, the club remains in the battle to stay up.

Much of this is down to their leaky backline which has conceded 42 goals in 19 games – the joint-most in the division.

This has led to multiple defenders being linked to the club over recent weeks. Kevin Danso is believed to be Wolves’ top target for centre-back, however, others have been linked.

According to John Percy, Wolves could reignite interest in Diego Carlos and Adam Webster in January.

The latter currently plays for Aston Villa and has been regular under Unai Emery.

Wolves were linked with Carlos in the summer but nothing came of the interest.

While there is no doubt Wolves need a centre-half in January, recent weeks have indicated that the club need two.

Craig Dawson’s performance vs Spurs made it clear that he was no longer able to compete Premier League.

This combined with Toti Gomes’ recent knock means that Santiago Bueno is Wolves’ only capable senior centre-half over the coming weeks.

Therefore, someone like Danso as well as Carlos would be able to add much-needed stability to the backline.

This is unlikely to hurt long-term either as Dawson’s contract is up in the summer and it is unknown how Yerson Mosquera will perform after his ACL injury.
