Wolves could now reignite move for ‘extremely strong’ 27-year-old in January

Wolves could reportedly make a fresh move for Southampton striker Che Adams in January, with Gary O’Neil looking to add some extra firepower.

The Telegraph have reported on the state of play at Wolves after a pretty hectic summer.

Wolves had to sell several players having run into a bit of financial difficulty. The likes of Ruben Neves, Matheus Nunes, Conor Coady, Raul Jimenez and Nathan Collins were all offloaded, with the club bringing in around £140 million.

As a result of generating such an amount, Wolves were then able to bring in a few new faces towards the end of the window. Enso Gonzalez, Santiago Bueno, Tommy Doyle and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde all joined in the final hours of the window.

Wolves were also looking to land another striker.

And Southampton’s Che Adams was someone the club went after. But the Saints ultimately stood firm.

It has now been suggested Wanderers could make a fresh attempt to land Adams in January…

The Telegraph have reported that O’Neil is going to prioritise signing a proper striker in January. This is apparently so that he can hand Matheus Cunha more of a free role.

The publication claim that Wolves could go back in for Adams.

At one point on deadline day, it looked as though Wolves would sign the Scotland international. But by late afternoon the move was off, with Southampton blocking the player’s exit.

Seemingly, he is a player Wolves are quite keen on and are ready to move for again.

Another player Wolves made a move for at the end of the last window was Boulaye Dia of Salernitana. But the proposal they sent to the Italian club was slammed by their sporting director Morgan De Sanctis.

Apparently, Wolves have now dropped their interest in Dia and won’t be going after him again in January.

Southampton may be willing to sell

It will be interesting to see if Wolves do push for Adams again in January. Given the claim Wolves have dropped their interest in Dia, a second attempt may well be made.

And Southampton might just be willing to sell. Adams’ contract at St. Mary’s Stadium expires next summer and they currently stand to lose him on a free.

Potentially, the Saints might be open to doing business so they can bring in a small fee, rather than lose him for nothing.

That would suit Wolves, who will not have a great deal of spending power in January.

A move for Adams likely wouldn’t really blow any Wolves fan away. But the 27-year-old has got experience at Premier League level and O’Neil is clearly a good coach and might be able to get a tune out of him.

He’s described by PSFA as ‘extremely strong’, and ‘a fierce presser who leads from the front with his aggression and intensity’ – things that are likely to appeal to O’Neil.
