Wolves could launch bid for £42m Spanish midfielder Pep Guardiola has also been tracking

It has been a busy start to the summer for Wolves, who are facing one of their most important transfer windows in years.

The club managed to secure their Premier League status with weeks to spare in 2024/25, thanks to a huge impact from Vitor Pereira.

Pereira came in in December and changed the picture at Wolves, leading the club to a 16th-placed finish.

For the job he did, Pereira earned a Manager of the Season nomination.

But now it’s about kicking on – and it is paramount for Wolves to be productive, with several players leaving the club.

And it’s been reported that Matt Hobbs is now set to leave Wolves, as the club shake up their recruitment structure.

Wolves want a new midfielder this summer.

And it looks as though a previous target is back on the agenda.

Wolves have reportedly been closely following Real Betis midfielder Sergi Altimira heading into the summer transfer window.

According to Mundo Betis, Altimira has just had the best season of his career so far with Betis, having made the most appearances of anyone in 2024/25 with 53.

He played a big part in helping Betis to finish sixth in La Liga and also helped the team reach the Europa Conference League final against Chelsea.

Altimira has now caught the attention of several clubs as a result of his performances and potential.

It’s stated by Mundo Betis that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has had his eye on the player, although they are now signing Tijjani Reijnders so a move to the Etihad Stadium may be doubtful.

But Wolves are said to have been following Altimira too, as well as Crystal Palace. It’s even suggested a transfer offer could soon be on the way for the Spaniard.

The player apparently has a release clause somewhere in the £33-42 million range, although Betis could be open to a negotiation.

Interestingly, Wolves tried and failed to sign Altimira in January.

Altimira would improve Wolves’ midfield depth

Currently, Wolves have two amazing central midfielders in Joao Gomes and Andre.

The Brazilian pair have really nailed down their spots in this Wolves team and don’t look like they’ll be dislodged any time soon.

Altimira is a great player though and was integral for Betis in their highly successful 2024/25 campaign.

He could move somewhere this summer and start for many clubs.

So Wolves landing him, given regular football would not be a guarantee, might be slightly unlikely.

But certainly if they did, then that would really improve the pool of midfield options further at Molineux.
