Despite the financial constraints placed on the club, Wolves are still looking to do business in this window.
The main area that Gary O’Neil has attempted to strengthen is a striker.
With Fabio Silva and Sasa Kalajdzic sent out on loan earlier in the window, this position was set as a priority for Wolves.
The club have battled tooth and nail to get someone through the door, but they haven’t yet had any success. O’Neil has even said they were close on two deals, however, they are no longer doable and he’s set his sights on other targets.
One of those could be Marseille midfielder Pape Gueye.

Wolves eyeing move for Pape Gueye before the window slams shut
Wolves are well stocked in central midfield, boasting the likes of Mario Lemina, Joao Gomes, Joe Hodge, Boubacar Traore and Tommy Doyle to choose from.
That still hasn’t stopped them from pursuing an extra reinforcement in that position.
Wolves and Everton are two sides who are cash-strapped, but according to TEAMtalk, they are both eyeing up a move for Gueye.
Marseille are open to letting go of the 25-year-old, who has impressed for Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations, helping his nation to three straight wins in the group and scoring in the victory over Gambia.
With his contract due to expire at the end of the season, the talented midfielder – who has made 103 appearances for the French giants – could be available on the cheap.
In their current financial situation, the Old Gold are shopping for bargains in the market and the “amazing” Gueye would certainly present great value for money.
Gueye could be their very own N’Golo Kante
During his time in the Premier League, there weren’t many better ball-winning midfielders than N’Golo Kante as the Frenchman helped inspire Leicester City and Chelsea to league titles.
An energetic and industrious ball-winning prototype himself, Gueye was previously compared to Kante and the statistics demonstrate why.
The Senegalese machine has played in the Champions League while in France, pitching himself against some of the best midfielders on the planet, and not looking out of place.
When comparing his defensive statistics against his positional peers across Europe’s top five leagues, Gueye ranks in the top 11% for blocks, 9% for tackles and 7% for interceptions, as per FBref.
Those numbers indicate that the Marseille man is an “Olympian”, as described by OptaJean, who possesses the stamina to cover every blade of grass on the pitch.
Although energy and industry are two attributes that Wolves don’t currently lack in their midfield, adding Gueye into the mix will not only improve the quality of that area further, but he also presents a long-term option for O’Neil.
On a cut-price deal, there aren’t many better bargains on the planet than the Marseille man and Wolves would be silly not to enter negotiations.
