Wolves could be negotiating for another young Brazilian who Joao Gomes knows very well

Wolves could potentially be negotiating for another young talent at the moment.

A string of top prospects have headed to Molineux in recent times.

Most recently, the club have landed Rodrigo Gomes and Pedro Lima, with the club hopeful that the pair will settle quickly and play a big part for the first-team.

There has been a conscious effort to bring in top prospects, who have high potential.

Wolves struck gold with the signing of Joao Gomes back in January 2023, and the club have been keen to sign players in the same mould ever since.

And Wolves may actually even have taken their search back to Gomes’ former club.

It has been reported by Bolavip that Wolves could now be back in for Victor Hugo, who plays for Flamengo.

The club were linked with Hugo around a month ago.

Apparently, his potential exit this summer is seen as ‘favourable’ by his agents.

Previously, Bolavip reported that Hugo wanted to leave the club as he had been excessively criticised, leaving his representatives uncomfortable.

Wolves currently don’t really have an out-and-out attacking midfielder, with Tommy Doyle, Boubacar Traore, Mario Lemina and Gomes all more defensive-minded.

Matheus Cunha has the capacity to operate as an attacking midfielder. But Gary O’Neil could also use him right up top with new signing Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Hugo has previously operated as a number 10 for Flamengo, but has also been used in deeper roles.

Hugo seems a bit of a risk

Wolves obviously had great success with the signing of Gomes from Flamengo, so it is little surprise the club are looking to raid the Brazilian market once again.

But Hugo does not have the most exciting goals and assists numbers, considering he does sometimes play as an attacking midfielder.

In 103 games, Hugo has scored just six goals and laid on five assists.

He is still only 20 though, so clearly he has a lot of room to develop. To have played that many games at the age suggests he is a talent.

But Wolves would perhaps need someone a little more proven. The suggestion he has been criticised for his performances in recent times isn’t too encouraging.
