Wolves could be in line to receive big transfer boost as key Fabio Silva update emerges

Wolves have nine players on loan for the 2024/25 campaign, with one earning the headlines.

Gary O’Neil made bold calls on several fringe players in the summer, seeing many depart on loan in a bid to gain experience.

One talent who was shipped away was Fabio Silva, whose future at Molineux is all but over after a series of spells away from the club.

It’s clear that the striker doesn’t have a future at Wolves however, to the surprise of many, he remained on the club’s books in the summer amid links to a permanent exit.

Fabio Silva in line for Portugal national team call-up

After returning from an eventful half-season at Rangers, Silva was shipped out on loan again, this time to LaLiga.

The 22-year-old signed for Las Palmas and has since become a highly-valued player in Spain, performing both in the league and at international level for Portugal U21.

Being Portugal U21’s top scorer in the U21 European Championship qualifiers impressed many, including Roberto Martinez.

As relayed by Sport Witness, Portuguese outlet Record claimed there’s a strong chance that Silva will make the cut in Portugal’s Nations League squad for the upcoming international break.

The striker is in the 40-man selection, with Record confident that the Wolves loanee will earn his first senior international call-up.

It would be a huge boost for Silva, who has had a trialling year after failing to impress O’Neil and then being branded ‘comical’ in front of goal at Ibrox.

Silva national team call-up could be significant for Wolves

While there’s no guarantee as of yet that Silva will make Martinez’s squad, which will be announced on Friday, Record’s view on the situation is one of optimism.

If the forward can make himself a Portugal international before his Wolves contract expires in 2026, there’s a possibility that the Old Gold could boost his sale price.

The chances of Wolves earning a fee close to the £35m paid to bring Silva to Molineux are incredibly slim however, the forward’s international chances certainly make for good reading at his parent club.

After so many lows, the prospect of Silva’s 2024/25 campaign ending with a successful spell in LaLiga and an international call-up could be huge.
