Wolves contemplating late swoops for two relegated players, including star Rob Edwards called ‘brilliant’

Wolves were thrashed 6-2 by Chelsea at the weekend and the result has prompted loud calls for the club to respond in the transfer market.

It has been a tough start to the new season for Wanderers, with back-to-back defeats against Arsenal and the Blues.

Wolves had good moments in both games.

But it has been clear that Wolves cannot proceed with the current defenders in the current system.

Wolves look great up top, but the backline looks very vulnerable right now. And fans have demanded that a new centre-half is signed before Friday’s deadline.

Bastien Meupiyou is set to sign. But Wolves are also expected to sign another player with more experience on top – and the club are now looking at two players who were relegated at the end of last season.

It has been reported that Wolves will be swooping for a central defender with more experience, after the capture of Meupiyou.

This has been music to fans’ ears, as it is clear that Yerson Mosquera and Toti Gomes are not the pairing Gary O’Neil needs right now if he is sticking with a back four.

According to Give Me Sport, Wolves are contemplating moves for two players who suffered relegation at the end of last season.

They are Anel Ahmedhodzic of Sheffield United, who has been linked previously, and Luton Town defender Teden Mengi.

Wolves have already missed out on Dara O’Shea, who has sealed a move to Ipswich Town. So Wolves are determined not to fail.

O’Shea was sold for around £15 million, so the club appear to feel they can get one of Ahmedhodzic or Mengi for less than that.

Wolves must sign one of these players

It is paramount that Wolves bolster their squad by signing one of these players before Friday’s deadline.

It has been clear from these first two games that O’Neil doesn’t have the personnel to be playing a back four.

Mengi could be a very savvy addition for Wolves. Obviously the club sanctioned the exit of the left-footed Max Kilman earlier this summer, and it would be good to have another come in.

£10,000-a-week star Mengi is left-footed, and is someone former Wolves man Rob Edwards rates highly. The Luton manager said (via MEN) of Mengi in February of this year that he had been ‘brilliant for us this year’.
