Wolves confirm one player has had his loan move terminated, he played just 190 minutes since March

Wolves have confirmed that one of their young players has now had his loan move terminated.

Defender Justin Hubner joined J1 League outfit Cerezo Osaka back in March on a season-long loan.

Hubner, 20, had been looking to experience regular minutes at senior level having made an impression in the academy.

Hubner had been due to be with Osaka until the end of the calendar year.

But the Indonesia international, who was actually born in the Netherlands, has now had his loan move cancelled, with the official Wolves Academy account on X confirming that this morning.

It is not clear whether Hubner will now fly out to Marbella to join Gary O’Neil and the other players.

Hubner, who joined Wolves in February 2020 from Dutch club Den Bosch, was supposed to be spending a full season with Cerezo Osaka.

But Osaka have played 23 league games so far, and Hubner has only featured in six of those matches. Just one of those six appearances has been a start, with the other five appearances being token cameos right at the end.

He made a further two appearances in the J. League Cup.

Wolves haven’t stated that a lack of game time is the reason for the cancellation of the loan. But it is a reasonable assumption to make given he played just 190 minutes for the club.

Osaka also announced Hubner’s departure this morning via their website, and quote the player as saying: “I am very sad to leave the team, but I will do my best to use my experience with Cerezo in my next team.

“I look forward to meeting all the fans and supporters again one day. Thank you very much for your support during my short time here.”

A disappointing loan

So Hubner will now return to Wolves after an unsuccessful first loan move.

It is disappointing that he could not get more minutes with the Japanese outfit, and Wolves will not be too impressed.

For whatever reason, Osaka manager Akio Kogiku did not feel inclined to pick him. He is, obviously, going to do what he feels is best for his team, and perhaps Hubner just didn’t show the level required. Or he may just have been genuinely unlucky.

Whatever the exact reason, Wolves now need to get it right with Hubner’s next move.

Potentially the club will want to get him back out on loan so he can put this disappointing spell behind him.
