Joao Gomes is one of Wolves’ best players, and with relegation looming, it is likely he eventually departs the club.
However, whether that is this January or later in the summer remains up in the air, especially as he continues to be linked away.
Most recently, the Brazilian has been watched by Crystal Palace, but before then, there were strong links with Manchester United.
But sources at the Red Devils downplayed those suggestions to David Ornstein, and now with the window officially open there has been another update about Gomes to Manchester United that includes yet another twist in the tale.
Who would be your DREAM January signing for Wolves?
Make it realistic!
Manchester United are still considering a move for Joao Gomes

Joao Gomes could very well leave Wolves this January, just two years on from the January window in which he joined.
The midfielder has attracted plenty of interest, and with one of the biggest clubs in the world looking at him, it would be hard to convince him to stay, particularly with his spot in Brazil’s World Cup squad up in the air.
Despite previous reports from Ornstein, it seems Joao Gomes could still be on the Old Trafford club’s agenda.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has delivered an update, confirming the interest from Manchester United is very much still there.
Who is Wolves’ best January signing in the Fosun era?
Jacobs, via the United Stand YouTube channel, says, “Manchester United have discussed [Joao Gomes] internally; yes, it’s possible that Wolves sanction a sale, but there has been no formal approach yet to Wolves or to the player.
“And that’s because they’re weighing up; if we sign Joao Gomes, we’ve probably only got room for one senior midfielder in the summer.”
For the Old Gold, Gomes might not be the only player who moves this winter.
Marshall Munetsi has plenty of suitors looking to take him, and when it comes to Jorgen Strand Larsen, Jamie Carragher believes the Norwegian has one foot out the door.
Wolves losing Joao Gomes now would be a major blow

Over the last few weeks, Wolves have started to look like a much more cohesive unit, so losing one of their better players would not be ideal for the Wanderers.
Relegation might look likely, but the battle for survival still can have plenty of twists and turns, but they need to start gaining points as soon as possible.

Dean Saunders believes it can take just one win to swing momentum Wolves’ way, and if anything, they can at least make the second half of the season much better than the first.
Even avoiding infamy should be a goal for the Old Gold, as that Derby County points record looks awfully close to being broken.
They’ll need players like Joao Gomes to ensure that is not the case.
