Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui was asked about Matheus Cunha following the 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Gillingham last night.
Wanderers are into the quarter-finals of the competition, with Raul Jimenez and Rayan Ait-Nouri getting the goals against the League Two side.
It was far from a smooth evening for Wolves.
Gillingham sat back and made life difficult for most of the match.
But Lopetegui made some changes for the second-half that resulted in a breakthrough.
Winning was the most important thing, and top-drawer performances will hopefully follow in the coming weeks.
After the game, Lopetegui was quizzed about the reports Atletico Madrid star Cunha is close to sealing a move to Molineux.
Smiling, he replied: “I don’t have news. When I have, I am going to answer you, but I don’t have news.”
Asked if he’s the kind of player Wolves want to be bringing in next month, he added: “He’s a good player.”
He is joining the club on loan, and Wolves will then be obligated to buy him next summer.
The player is scheduled for a medical today, and his move will be made official in January.
Matheus Cunha is coming to Wolves, and his addition can be a huge boost
Cunha is set to join Wolves. Lopetegui’s answer combined with his facial expression clearly suggests the move is imminent, and it’s great news for the club.
The South American is a really talented player who can hopefully help Wolves become more potent in the final third.
Lopetegui will know all about his qualities having observed him in the Spanish league.
Clearly he feels as though he’s someone who can make a difference to his team.
Hopefully there will be no issues with the medical, and Cunha can complete his move as soon as possible.
