Wolves backed to find Matheus Cunha successor in transfer for Premier League award winner

The summer transfer window is set to be an interesting time for Wolves, who are bracing themselves for change.

Regrettably, the Old Gold are expected to lose at least three players at the end of the season, each possessing quality and experience.

Nelson Semedo could join Benfica as a free agent, with Pablo Sarabia linked to a move once his contract expires in the summer.

Aside from those who are preparing to become free agents, Matheus Cunha shared that he wants to leave Wolves, giving Vitor Pereira a sizeable task to replace the Brazilian.

For all of his faults away from the action, relating to Cunha’s poor temperament and petulance, the 25-year-old is undoubtedly Wolves’ best player.

It will take a lot for Pereira to sufficiently replace the 19 goals Cunha has contributed to this season, a job that could require more than one arrival to complete.

Speaking about what the summer transfer window could hold for Wolves, journalist Nathan Judah shared one player he’d pick to bolster the Old Gold’s front line.

“An interesting shout this summer would be Brighton playmaker Julian Enciso, someone who I’ve liked for a long time,” Judah told Liam Keen on the E&S Wolves Podcast.

“I think he would suit Wolves in that number ten attacking midfielder role. I think his best years are ahead. He had a bad injury at Brighton, but before that, he was absolutely on fire.”

Judah went on to explain why this summer could be the best time for Wolves to invest in Enciso, who, after a challenging year, is showing signs of a resurgence.

“I feel like his kind of nature, his character and the eye for goal he’s got, and I think the price that Brighton will be looking for him, I think they might get him at a decent rate.”

Encisio’s potential is exciting

Enciso’s quality cannot be argued however, his recent struggles equally cannot be ignored.

After collecting the Premier League goal of the season in 2022/23, the Paraguayan suffered a serious knee injury, seeing the forward return having to fight for his place and combat the repercussions of undergoing surgery.

Currently on loan at Ipswich Town, Enciso is showing that his spark is returning, contributing positively in matches ahead of what could be a decisive summer transfer window for him.

Positionally, the Paraguay international could be one option to replace Cunha in 2025/26, a move that Judah would like to see materialise.

As seen by his heatmap, Encisio doesn’t like to be tied to one role, quite like Wolves’ superstar Brazilian, who enjoys causing chaos behind the front line of attack.

It will be interesting to see how Enciso ends the season at Ipswich and where his next steps take him, with Wolves set to be scouring the market for a player of his profile.

Will Judah get his wish of seeing Enciso and Wolves’ paths cross? The summer transfer window will hold the answer.
