Wolves asking price for Joao Gomes now emerges as Liverpool and Bayern Munich join hunt

Liverpool and Bayern Munich have reportedly joined the hunt for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes this summer.

Wolves have already sold captain Max Kilman to West Ham United.

While Wolves are in a healthy position financially, it could be that big offers arrive for other players. Gary O’Neil improved many stars last season, and there have already been lots of reports of interest.

Gomes was one such player.

He became a regular after assuming Ruben Neves‘ number eight shirt, and really shone in midfield alongside Mario Lemina.

Gomes was reported to be a target for Manchester United earlier this year. Champions League club Arsenal have also been credited with an interest. But now, he is also on the radars of two more European giants in Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

Last season, Gomes was a breath of fresh air for Wolves, as he and Lemina ran their socks off every single game they played.

The pair are very different to Neves and Joao Moutinho in that they are very mobile and athletic. And both have a fantastic ball-winning ability.

Give Me Sport have released a report this evening about Wolves and it is claimed by journalist Ben Jacobs that Gomes has now emerged as a target for Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

But it is suggested he is far less likely to be sold than Pedro Neto, with Wolves wanting at least £60 million for the Brazil international.

Gomes has only been with Wolves since January 2023, and there is a feeling that his market value could increase significantly in the next year or two.

Wolves’ stance over Gomes is correct

So Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Manchester United all admire Gomes, and it remains to be seen if one of these clubs will attempt to actually sign him this summer.

It is little surprise such a claim has been made, because Gomes – described as a ‘super talent’ by O’Neil last year – is a serious prospect.

Last season in the Premier League he looked so at home, despite having only come to England in January 2023. His combative style makes him really well-suited to the Premier League, and it’s only right that he has plenty of admirers already.

But Wolves are adopting the correct stance here.

He has not been at the club long, so a high asking price of £60 million seems very fair, especially given he could potentially be very special.
