Wolves in two-team battle to sign ‘very special’ £30m gem in January

Wolves are reportedly interested in signing Hugo Ekitike this month – and currently, the club are locked in a battle with Wolfsburg to sign the young striker.

Gary O’Neil is seeking to land a new centre-forward this month, having already loaned out Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva.

The Molineux head coach is looking to get Matheus Cunha into more of a free role, and is keen to land a more natural number nine to lead the line.

Danny Ings has been mentioned, but injury problems at West Ham United have now put that proposed move in some jeopardy.

Another player Wolves have been linked with recently is Hugo Ekitike – and last night there was a new report about the club’s pursuit…

L’Equipe have reported on Ekitike, who has barely featured for Paris Saint-Germain this season.

The 21-year-old has been handed just eight minutes this term by Luis Enrique, who does not count on the player.

The French giants are said to be keen to offload Ekitike, either on loan or permanently.

Wolves were linked last week and then there were claims that they have stepped up interest in the former Reims star.

Last night, L’Equipe reported that Wolves are currently pushing the hardest for the player, along with Bundesliga club Wolfsburg. An approach has actually been made by Wolves, who want to take Ekitike on loan for the remainder of the season, and then have an option to buy him this summer.

It is stated by the publication that Ekitike is ‘slowly getting closer to a departure’.

Ekitike move would be exciting

So it sounds as though Wolves are pushing for Ekitike this month.

He’s a player Wolves were linked with while he was at Reims and it seems like Molineux officials do quite like him.

So far, it has not worked out for him at the Parc des Prince and a move away for him this month does seem likely – and hopefully Wolves are able to do some kind of deal.

While he obviously does not have any Premier League experience, and hasn’t been playing, Ekitike is a young player with huge potential. Indeed, his old coach at Reims Oscar Garcia once said ‘There is something very special about him’ (via ligue1.com).

He was so coveted at Reims before his £30 million transfer to PSG, and the starlet now needs a fresh start.

With Wolves offloading Kalajdzic and Silva, there is surely decent potential for him to get regular minutes at Molineux. Ekitike is said to like the Premier League, so perhaps this could have legs.
