The Wolves transfer rumours are dying down as we move further away from Monday’s deadline, but there are some stories we didn’t catch in time.
Wolves spent months looking for a Nelson Semedo replacement, and after a litany of rejections, finally landed on speedster Jackson Tchatchoua.
La Liga defenders Juanlu Sanchez and Marc Pubill both turned Wolves down.
But the club were very interested in another young full-back from Spain, so much so that they put in an official bid.
Wolves tabled a bid for Espanyol right-back Omar El Hilali
21-year-old Moroccan Omar El Hilali was a target for a number of clubs.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Espanyol academy product attracted interest from Nottingham Forest, Everton and Cesc Fabregas’s Como.
But Wolves were also in the mix, going as far as to submit an official offer for his services.

El Hilali is a versatile defender, capable of playing anywhere in the back line. His defensive stats are particularly impressive, as he ranks in the top 10% of Top 5 league full-backs for tackles, blocks and clearances in the past year.
Como were closest to getting a deal done, but the player is set to remain with the Catalan side.
Wolves’ bid for Omar El Hilali is another indication that Jackson Tchatchoua wasn’t the plan
Wolves’ right wing-back search has seen the club go from target to target all summer with little joy.
Confronted with Semedo’s exit, Wolves stepped up their pursuit of Marc Pubill before Atletico Madrid hijacked the move. After that, an agreement was reached with Juanlu Sanchez, but he turned down the move as well.

Those two are similar profiles to El Hilali, as technical defenders who are comfortable on the ball and can step into midfield.
That isn’t Tchatchoua’s game. He’s an explosive wing-back who poses serious danger in transition, operating primarily as a wide player. Whether that profile works for Pereira, only time will tell, but so far the new Wolves man has been an exciting watch.
