Wolves and Newcastle the ‘most interested’ Premier League clubs in Juventus defender

Wolves’ search for a new right wing-back continues – and a new name has been suggested as a potential Nelson Semedo replacement.

Semedo finally confirmed his exit from Wolves last week, to the surprise of hardly anyone.

It had been on the cards for some time, with his contract actually expiring several weeks ago.

Wolves have been actively searching for a new right wing-back this summer, and it was thought the club would sign Marc Pubill.

Wolves thought they were landing Pubill, only for Atletico Madrid to hijack the move.

Wolves have also been strongly linked with Juanlu Sanchez, who plays for Sevilla.

But the noise today is that Napoli are closing in on Sanchez, meaning Wolves will again have to look at alternatives to replace Semedo.

And it looks as though Wolves’ search has now led them to Italy.

It has been claimed by Italian journalist Mirko Di Natale, who works for Tutto Juve, that Wolves and Newcastle United are currently the most interested teams in Juventus defender Nicolo Savona.

Tutto Juve had quoted journalist Matteo Moretto earlier as saying: “We close today’s video by talking about Juventus because verbal, unofficial proposals have arrived from the Premier League for Savona.

“The possibility that Savona will leave Juventus is there, it is real, it is concrete. Juventus is also protecting itself, trying to understand and evaluate other profiles that can be included in the squad in place of Savona.

“Watch out for Savona’s future because Savona can leave Juventus. So we will update you in the coming days, we will tell you what the proposals may be”.

And now this evening, Di Natale has mentioned Wolves and Newcastle, but says that no proposals have yet been made by either club. It is just interest at this stage.

Savona, 22, has been with Juventus since the age of eight, and has made 40 first-team appearances to date.

Versatile Savona could be ideal for Wolves

Wolves do not get linked with Italian players very often, with the club seemingly having more of a focus on the likes of Spain, Portugal and South America these days.

So it would be interesting to see Wolves swoop for an Italian, although fans will hope that Savona would fare much better than the last, and only, Italian to sign for the club – Patrick Cutrone.

Depending on the price, Savona could be a great pick up by Wolves, as he is very versatile.

Savona is a right-back by trade. But he can also play as a right wing-back and even as a centre-back.

Juvefc has noted that Savona has ‘continued to impress with his versatility across the back line’ since being promoted to the first-team by Thiago Motta.

With time ticking until Wolves’ first Premier League game against Manchester City, hopefully the club will start to mobilise if they feel Savona could be a good fit.
