Wolves and Arsenal eyeing Spanish striker with 14 goals this season

Wolves are said to be keeping tabs on Getafe striker Borja Mayoral – who has been enjoying a pretty good season over in Spain.

Wolves have yet to bring anyone in this month, with sporting director Matt Hobbs suggesting this week that the club may wait until later in the window for the right player/s.

Gary O’Neil is known to want a new striker this month, with Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva having already left on loan.

A number of players have been linked, such as Che Adams, Danny Ings and Hugo Ekitike to name but a few.

Now, a new name has been thrown into the mix…

It has been reported by TEAMtalk this afternoon that Wolves have been keeping tabs on Getafe striker Borja Mayoral.

Mayoral, 26, has been with Getafe since the summer of 2022 when he moved from Real Madrid after several loan spells, and is currently enjoying the best goalscoring league season of his career, having bagged 12 so far.

He also has a further two goals in the Cope del Rey to give a total haul of 14, meaning he’s outscored Wolves’ top scorer Hwang Hee-chan by three.

Mayoral needs just three more goals to equal his best-ever goalscoring season overall, which came when he was on loan at AS Roma in 2020/21.

TEAMtalk say Mayoral is also being tracked by Arsenal and Crystal Palace.

It is stated that he could be available for around £20 million.

Surely Mayoral won’t come to Wolves

Mayoral is certainly having a good season and is helping Getafe to think about possible European football next season.

It’s hard to see Wolves landing him in this window though, if that £20 million valuation has any truth in it.

We know that Wolves are still being cautious with their spending this month, following on from the summer.

The narrative so far has been that cheap deals and loans are the way forward this month, so Mayoral may just prove a bit too expensive.
