Wolves are looking to finish the 2024 summer transfer window strongly, and a claim has been made today that the club looked at a player from Aston Villa.
Wolves have landed Sam Johnstone today, and yesterday young defender Bastien Meupiyou was also announced as a new signing.
The club will confirm the sgining of Fluminense midfielder Andre later today, with the star – who has been compared to Casemiro – currently undergoing his medical.
But Wolves are still looking to add two more players – a new centre-back, and a wide forward.
Yesterday, it was suggested that Wolves had interest in signing Nayef Aguerd on loan from West Ham United.
And today, it has been claimed Wolves have looked at another Premier League centre-back.
Wolves considered Diego Carlos from Aston Villa

It has been repored by BBC Sport’s Nick Mashiter that Wolves gave consideration to moving for Diego Carlos of Aston Villa.
He says that Wolves would look at a new centre-half if one became available, after being turned down by Aguerd.
He then mentions Carlos. He said: “Johnstone seals £10m Wolves move. If CB becomes available club would look at it having been rejected by West Ham’s Aguerd earlier this week.
“Diego Carlos was one under discussion (though never an approach to Villa) but he is due to stay at #avfc.”
It is unclear whether Wolves would have looked to sign Carlos permanently or on loan.
Carlos joined Villa in the summer of 2022 from Sevilla for around £26 million.
On his debut for the club, he suffered a ruptured Achilles, which put him on the sidelies for a large chunk of his first season. To date, he has clocked up 41 appearances for Villa to date.
This term, Carlos has been an unused substitute in Villa’s first two Premier League games.
An interesting claim
So Wolves may have looked at Carlos but ultimately decided not to make a move.
It is not suggested why this was the case, but seemingly the club are looking at other options now on deadline day.
Carlos has obviously had his injury probilems at Villa and one wonders if this was a reason the club opted against formalising their interest.
Or perhaps Villa were demanding too much money.
Carlos would certainly have brought a lot of physicality and agression to the bacline, which has already had an injection of those things recently through Yerson Mosquera.
