Will Still shares crucial update on Wolves target Kevin Danso as transfer race heats up

It’s the final week of the January transfer window and Wolves are expected to conduct further business.

Wolves have already signed Emmanuel Agbadou from Ligue 1 side Reims, and the Ivorian centre-back has settled into life at Molineux well.

While Agbadou has impressed, Vitor Pereira wants to sign two more players in the closing stages of the window, including another centre-back.

Several names have been linked with a move however, it appears the Old Gold are looking to raid another French side for one of their stars.

On Monday, Wolves saw a £18.5m bid for Kevin Danso rejected. The Austrian powerhouse has been a long-term target for the Premier League side, with Pereira now aiming to strike a deal.

Will Still claims Kevin Danso ‘doesn’t want to leave’ RC Lens

Wolves are in hot pursuit of Danso, who reportedly wants to leave RC Lens this month.

However, a deal looks difficult to complete, as Lens manager Will Still claims his star defender doesn’t want to leave this month.

“Danso doesn’t want to leave. He is not sabotaging us. He hurt himself in training. He took the ball on his ankle, which twisted and it pulled on his knee,” Still said via RMC Sport.

Those comments from the Belgian emerged after Danso missed Lens’ 1-0 victory over Angers on Sunday, sparking speculation over his future.

Of course, with Still now confirming it was an injury that kept him out of the side, perhaps the manager is confident of keeping Danos beyond the deadline.

Wolves must have multiple targets on their radar

With other clubs entering the race for the Austrian international, Pereira shouldn’t put all his eggs in one basket.

Danso openly wants to play Champions League football, citing that as a reason why he rejected Wolves previously.

Indeed, the talented defender could share a similar stance this month as he perhaps doesn’t see joining Wolves as an attractive project given their position in the table.

Pereira must use his preference as an opportunity to look at other targets, which would give him multiple chances to land a player before the deadline.

A deal for Danso remains on the cards but the transfer pendulum can swing quickly, and that is a key reason why other targets should be eyed.
