Why Wolves really want to hand Matheus Cunha a new contract as fresh twist emerges

Wolves fans are desperately hoping that Matheus Cunha will not leave the club this month – and some interesting new claims have been made this evening.

Cunha is occupying all of the gossip columns at the moment, having stalled over a proposed new contract at Molineux.

Cunha’s agent has been making noise, despite a verbal agreement having been in place weeks ago.

Over the last couple of days, Cunha’s immediate future has been thrown into doubt. Especially after fans thought Cunah looked disinterested against Chelsea on Monday.

Nottingham Forest were reported to have launched a club record bid for Cunha earlier today.

But now some fresh claims have been made about the Brazilian that suggest he could be sticking around.

Earlier today, Sky Sports News reported that Cunha was ‘unlikely’ to sign a new contract with Wolves.

But this evening, one of their reports Danyal Khan has taken to X to make some fresh claims about Cunha – and it’s good news for Wolves fans wanting him to stay.

He says: “Despite interest by Nottingham Forest and Arsenal – I understand Matheus Cunha is NOT for sale and not expected to leave Wolves in January.

“New contract was about rewarding his recent form – no impact on his immediate future & Wolves relaxed about the situation.”

Cunha staying will be a major boost for Wolves

Fans have been growing a bit frustrated with all this speculation about Cunha in recent days. But the bottom line is keeping him around will be huge for Wolves.

He is probably flattered by all the interest in him, and may well have had his head turned.

But Wolves cannot be losing a player of this quality given their current situation.

Now, it’s not out of the question that a mammoth bid could yet come in for him in the coming days.

But seemingly, Wolves are intent on keeping the player and hopefully, we will not have a situation where he pulls a Mario Lemina and refuses to play against Arsenal this weekend.
