Why Wolves could actually now save themselves nearly £20m on Fer Lopez after agreeing personal terms

Wolves could soon make their first signing of the summer in the form of Fer Lopez.

It was reported on Saturday that Fer Lopez had agreed personal terms with Wolves, which left fans excited. This, after interest from Wolves in Lopez was first reported a couple of days ago.

So far this summer, it has been all about people leaving the club. So news of a potential incoming was very welcome indeed.

Lopez is apparently not seen as a replacement for Matheus Cunha though, and would likely play as the right-sided number 10, not the left.

Currently, Wolves are trying to strike a deal with Celta Vigo.

And it had been suggested that the player had a €40 million release clause.

But there was a potential boost for Vitor Pereira last night, as one report claimed it may not take anywhere near that amount to sign him.

It was reported last night that Fer Lopez was initially thought to have a €40 million release clause.

But this, according to AS, is only half the story.

Actually, Lopez has two release clauses, one worth €40 million and one worth €20 million (£17 million).

Apparently, this is due to a clause that was stipulated when he signed his last contract with the club.

Lopez had a €20 million clause when he was in the youth team, and as he was registered as a youth player this season, despite playing for the first-team, he keeps that €20 million clause.

There is a suggestion from AS that Wolves would be getting a real bargain for around €20 million, and that Celta Vigo see Lopez as the heir to Iago Aspas, and the most talented academy product since Moaña left.

Big boost for Wolves over Lopez

If it’s true that Lopez may only cost around £17 million as opposed to £37 million, then that’s obviously great news for Wolves.

Seemingly, he is a player they think very highly of and would be gutted to lose.

Lopez would certainly be a typical Wolves signing in that he is young with a very high ceiling, so hopefully the club can get a deal agreed pretty soon.

It has been a frustrating start to the summer for fans with so many exits so quickly.

But hopefully the coming weeks will now see players join the club.
