When Sam Johnstone will undergo Wolves medical as £10m fee ‘almost agreed’ with Crystal Palace

Wolves are closing in on their fifth signing of the summer transfer window as Sam Johnstone’s move is near completion.

Gary O’Neil has a huge task on his hands at Molineux before deadline day, with plenty of work to be done to ensure the squad is ready to compete in the Premier League.

Last term, the manager saw how difficult it was to combat the gruelling schedule with a limited squad however, the same problems seem to be arising with two key players already offloaded.

The quest to replace Max Kilman and Pedro is still very much in the works but Johnstone’s arrival is set to represent the next signing.

When Sam Johnstone will have his Wolves medical with transfer ‘almost agreed’

While Wolves’ priority is to sign both a winger and a centre-back of first-team calibre, a goalkeeper is O’Neil’s latest move.

After weeks of Wolves being linked to Aaron Ramsdale, it’s another Premier League ‘keeper who will make Molineux home.

Johnstone wants to leave Crystal Palace before the end of the week, with O’Neil and Matt Hobbs taking advantage of the player’s stance.

As time is ticking in the transfer window, an update has now been provided on the deal by journalist Ed Aarons, who reported that a £10m deal is ‘almost agreed’.

Aarons added that Johnstone is set to have a medical at Wolves today [28/08] ahead of his proposed move to the Midlands.

Johnstone’s arrival could open several doors

While Ramsdale was considered as the dream signing to bolster Wolves’ options between the sticks, Johnstone is an adequate figure to be integrated into the squad.

It’s an interesting transfer for several reasons, one of which regarding Jose Sa, whose future at Wolves has been speculated.

It’s understood that the Portugal international’s agents are reviewing a possible move to Saudi Arabia, which could put Johnstone in line to arrive as Wolves’ number one.

Also in the goalkeeping department, Dan Bentley has been linked to Arsenal again, with all the movement poised to happen in the position this week.

For now, fans will welcome Johnstone to the club ahead of his proposed move, with the understanding that his medical will take place today.
