When Matheus Cunha’s new Wolves contract could be announced as intriguing release clause suggestion made

Wolves fans are patiently waiting for Matheus Cunha to sign a new contract.

The Brazilian has been in remarkable form this season, having already scored 10 goals in the Premier League, while also playing on four assists.

Without Cunha’s contributions, Wolves would surely be in the relegation zone, and his importance to this team is very clear at this point.

Naturally, Wolves have been keen to get Cunha tied down to a new contract, with discussions having been held in recent days and weeks.

It’s now been reported by Fabrizio Romano and others that Cunha has agreed a new contract with Wolves, and the suggestion is that it’s only a matter of time now before official confirmation is given by the club.

According to The Telegraph, Wolves are now very close to agreeing a new contract with Cunha.

It’s claimed by the publication that the club could announce the new contract for their talisman in the next fortnight.

And interestingly, Cunha’s new deal could well include a release clause.

But, it’s reported this release clause may well only become active if Wolves actually get relegated from the Premier League.

It’s also stated that Wolves never had any fears about Cunha leaving the club this month. Gary O’Neil had said before his sacking that he wouldn’t be sold, and new manager Vitor Pereira has also been vocal about keeping Cunha.

Cunha release clause agreement will be very interesting

So it looks as though Cunha will indeed be signing a new contract at Wolves, which is obviously amazing news given his importance to the team and the fact he’s coveted by many clubs.

This claim about there potentially being a release clause that would only be active if the club get relegated is particularly interesting.

Appearances – 20
Minutes played – 1582
Goals – 10
Assists – 4

That is something that would be expected. There’s no way Cunha would stay at Wolves in the event of relegation, and it would only be right that there’d be a reasonable clause in place for to leave if that did happen.

But the idea his release clause may only become active if Wolves get relegated could be very significant.

At the very least, Wolves would be able to demand an absolutely huge fee for the player.
