What Wolves think about Harvey Elliott with Liverpool star facing ‘quandary’

Wolves will be in the market for new forwards this summer and Harvey Elliott appears to be on the club’s radar.

Wolves are highly likely to lose Matheus Cunha, who is heavily coveted by Manchester United.

But the Brazilian may not be the only forward to leave the club in the next window. The likes of Hwang Hee-chan, Goncalo Guedes, Pablo Sarabia and Carlos Forbs could all be on their way too.

Wolves were linked with Liverpool star Elliott last week.

The youngster has struggled for regular starts at Anfield, and is therefore a potential exit for them this summer.

But Liverpool are said to value Elliott north of £40 million, which would surely prove prohibitive for Wolves.

Molineux News caught up with transfer expert Graeme Bailey to get the lowdown on Wolves’ interest in the player.

These days Wolves play with two ‘number 10s’.

These are players who take up advanced midfield positions and tend to play slightly inside, with wing-backs overlapping them.

For the most part, Cunha has played as the left 10 for Wolves, and then the right 10 has been any one of Jean-Ricner Bellegade, Marshall Munetsi or Pablo Sarabia.

Elliott is versatile, and would likely be able to play on either side.

Graeme Bailey tells us: “There is interest there, they’re not alone in liking him. A lot of clubs are aware that he is sort of available, I say that, but Liverpool would demand a hefty price tag.

“He’s in a position now where he’s in a quandary, does he move on, is he going to be a first team regular? It’s very hard at Liverpool.

“Wolves are attentive to the situation, they’re aware of him, they think he’d be a good fit. With Cunha going, could he be a Cunha replacement? I think he could. He’s one that Wolves are aware of, and it’s a situation they’re keeping track of.”

Wolves will surely look to negotiate Liverpool down over Elliott

Elliott would make a very good signing for Wolves.

However, at the moment, he is probably out of the club’s budget with an asking price of over £40 million.

It’s understandable though that Liverpool have priced him at that figure. Clearly, there is some concern that he would leave and thrive for another team.

Wolves ought to see if they can negotiate that price down.

These days, Wolves tend to pay fees of £20 million and under for players, so it would be a surprise to see the club go anywhere near £40 million for Elliott.
