Wolves could be set for a busy next couple of weeks in the transfer window – and one player who may or may not be on the move is Hwang Hee-chan.
Hwang has experienced a difficult campaign in 2024/25 so far.
Last term he was one of Wolves’ best players, providing 13 goals across all competitions in what was his best goalscoring season.
But Hwang has struggled from the off in 2024/25, scoring just two times this term.
He looked to have turned to corner by scoring against Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur. But Hwang was poor against Nottingham Forest and Bristol City, and some Wolves fans even called for Vitor Pereira to sell Hwang after Saturday’s win at Ashton Gate.
Here’s what we know of the situation.
Wolves don’t want to let Hwang leave in January

Sources have informed Molineux News that Wolves ideally want to keep hold of Hwang Hee-chan this month.
The South Korea international may have lost his regular starter status this season, but Wolves still view him as an important player.
Wolves’ 2023/24 season derailed somewhat after a number of key players suffered injuries after the January transfer window.
Hwang was one of those players, as well as Matheus Cunha and Pedro Neto. All three forwards sustained hamstring injuries and in the end, Wolves lost momentum and finished 14th in the Premier League table.
Molineux News understands that Wolves are keen to avoid being left short, and so the intention is to keep Hwang.
We have also been told there is still legitimate interest from West Ham, despite the recent departure of Julen Lopetegui. But the Hammers have several other players on their list of forward targets.
Pereira needs more from Hwang
Hwang has probably been one of the biggest disappointments at Wolves so far this season.
In most of the games he’s played he’s made very little impact, and he has also looked very low on confidence at times.
This has led to him making mistakes in games. On Saturday, it was he who gave away the free-kick that led to Bristol City’s goal just before half-time. Wolves had been 2-0 up and cruising, but that goal changed the complexion of the game.

Hwang obviously meant well, trying to track back and win the ball. But his eagerness to try and help there was misplaced.
Some have theorised that the bid Marseille made for Hwang last summer might have weighed on the player’s mind.
It’ll be interesting to see if the French giants come back in for him, but seemingly the plan is for Wolves to keep Hwang this month – and that is probably the wise move. But Hwang certainly needs to start improving if he wants to make himself a regular again.
