What Wolves could do now as West Ham prepare third Max Kilman bid

Wolves defender Max Kilman remains a top target for West Ham United – and a new report has just made an interesting claim amid the transfer saga.

The Hammers have already seen two bids rejected for the 27-year-old this summer.

West Ham saw a £25 million offer turned down recently, and then were said to have failed with a cash bid plus an unnamed player.

Julen Lopetegui is determined to lure the defender to the London Stadium after working with him at Molineux, but Wolves have stood firm so far.

But it could well be that Wolves’ stance over Kilman is about to become a little looser.

It has been reported by Give Me Sport that Wolves are expecting West Ham to come back with a new offer after having two already rejected.

Previously, it has been suggested that Wolves were looking for around £45 million to sell Kilman.

But now, GMS have claimed that Wanderers could actually compromise and accept nearer to £40 million for their captain, as West Ham prepare to make their next offer.

Wolves selling Kilman for £40 million would still net the club a huge profit.

Kilman joined Wolves for just £40,000 from Maidenhead United so the club would still be making a lot of money on him. Even if a chuck of the cash will go to Maidenhead due to the sell-on clause they have.

Fans are anticipating that Kilman will be sold soon, with the club having splashed cash on Tommy Doyle and three new players already this summer.

Kilman is thought to be the most likely ‘big’ sale at Molineux at the moment, with Pedro Neto also a possible exit.

Selling at £40m would still be great business

For a while now it has been reported that Wolves have wanted £45 million for Kilman.

But selling at £40 million would still be a brilliant bit of business. Ultimately, Kilman arrived for basically nothing, so a huge profit will be made on the player.

While Kilman – described recently as ‘very intelligent’ by former Old Gold midfielder Dave Edwards – is a very good defender who is proven in the Premier League and a captain, £40 million seems about right in terms of his actual value.

It would be a bit of a shame to see him go as he has been a great servant to the club. He has developed so well, and has always been available for selection.

But there’s a chance for Wolves to bring in a big chunk of cash here which could be reinvested into the squad to help pack it out a bit more for 2024/25.
