What Wolves are ‘categorically adamant’ about amid £21m move for Fluminense midfielder Andre

There was a big development last night regarding Wolves transfers, with midfielder Andre now set to sign for the club.

It was reported while Wolves were taking on Burnley in the Carabao Cup that the club had reached an agreement to sign the midfielder for around £21 million.

Wolves progressed to the third round of the cup by beating the Clarets 2-0, with Goncalo Guedes scoring a break.

Behind the scenes, Matt Hobbs – who was present at the game last night – was working away on transfers.

It has been reported that Wolves are closing in on a deal to sign Andre, with the player set to travel to England for his medical.

It is welcome news for fans, who have been clamouring for new faces since the 6-2 defeat to Chelsea.

Some supporters though have had an uneasy feeling about this Andre deal for one reason in particular – that it could point to a late exit for Joao Gomes.

Wolves signing Andre will not mean Joao Gomes leaves

Wolves are in for a very busy next couple of days.

There could be at least three new incomings.

Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is thought to have done is medical yesterday, as did young Nantes defender Bastien Meupiyou.

Andre looks to be a question of when and not if now following the breakthrough last night, and fans are looking forward to his signing.

But some have wondered what this could mean for Joao Gomes, a player who has been the subject of interest from big clubs this summer.

The Brazilian midfielder won’t be going anywhere, with journalist Liam Keen dropping an ecnouraging udpate on X last night.

He said: “Wolves categorically adamant they will not be losing Joao Gomes this summer, regardless of signing Andre. Would take a huge fee and club not entertaining it”

A big relief

Some fans instantly thought about what this Andre deal might mean for Gomes following last night’s breakthrough and the report from Keen comes as a real relief.

Gomes has become a huge player for Wolves and is central to Gary O’Neil‘s plans for the season.

If he is sold, most fans would deem that an unforgivable act. Thankfully, it does not appear Wanderers will play with fire.

Andre may well turn out to be a long term replacement for Gomes, but he will not be directly replacing him in this window and looks like he will play in the same midfield as him for at least a year at Molineux, which is exciting.
