What people at Wolves have been saying about Fabio Silva during Portugal training camp as Liam Keen drops update

Fabio Silva is currently with the Wolves squad for pre-season, despite speculation he will leave this summer.

Fabio Silva is back with the squad following a fairly successful loan spell with Las Palmas.

Silva hit 10 goals for the Spanish outfit, becoming only the third player to reach that milestone this century, after Jonathan Viera and Kevin-Prince Boateng.

On Tuesday, Wolves had their first pre-season game against Santa Clara.

Silva did not feature in the game, but that was due to him coming back from an injury he was contending with at the backend of last season.

Silva’s presence at the camp is certainly interesting given the speculation, and journalist Liam Keen has now offered an update on how the player is conducting himself in Portugal.

Some didn’t really expect Silva to be a part of Wolves’ pre-season training camp in Portugal.

Obviously, speculation has been rife about him, with Jorge Mendes apparently trying to facilitate Silva’s exit from Wolves.

The situation is a little like Daniel Podence last year.

There had been widespread reports that Podence was all set to leave the club, but he still went on Wolves’ pre-season trip to Marbella, before he ended up leaving.

Liam Keen has spoken about Silva during the latest E&S podcast, and talked up his conduct so far on the trip to Portugal – but reiterated that the striker is likely to leave the club.

He said: “The player wants to go. The club are working on a deal for him, we’re all expecting that he’ll go.

“Look, surprises have happened – Guedes stayed at Wolves last season, that was a surprise! Things can change but I think it’s very unlikely he’ll be a Wolves player.

“I just can’t see it happening.

“He is here. We’ve spoken to people around the club, we’ve obviously been around it with training and things like that, and he’s visible, he’s around, they’re not hiding him in a cupboard and sticking him where no one can see him.

“We’ve spoke to a few people about it and they’ve been complimentary of the way he’s carried himself.

“He hasn’t been troublesome and has been getting on with things.”

Last week, it had been suggested that both Wolves and Silva were ‘absolutely adamant’ that a permanent transfer would happen this time around.

It is interesting that Silva is with the Wolves squad right now.

Because Boubacar Traore has been left behind to sort out his Wolves future, so clearly there is scope for players who aren’t going to be sticking around not to be there.

Perhaps Vitor Pereira wanted him on the trip just in case a move doesn’t happen for him. So at least he has been involved and would have an understanding of team tactics.

Silva deserves credit for carrying himself well amid the speculation about his future.

Seemingly he does want to leave the club, but he clearly isn’t about to make himself a problem for Wolves.

Hopefully if he does seal his permanent exit this summer, Wolves can squeeze out as much money out of the transfer as possible after his successful stint in Spain.
