What Liverpool star Harvey Elliott has said now may just put Wolves on red alert

Wolves fans are hoping to see some new players come to Molineux soon, with the summer having started with an exodus.

So far, Matheus Cunha has been sold, and Pablo Sarabia and Craig Dawson are leaving as free agents. Nelson Semedo could also yet depart on a free.

And Rayan Ait-Nouri will soon be announced as a new Manchester City player after undergoing his medical at the weekend.

And it isn’t just players leaving Molineux.

Matt Hobbs left the club last week after his sporting director role was dissolved, with Wolves moving to a more fluid set-up. Domenico Teti is set to join Wolves as new technical director.

Amid all these outgoings, links to new players have been plentiful – and one man Wolves have been credited with an interest in is Harvey Elliott.

And it may now be that his exit from Liverpool is more likely.

A few weeks ago, Wolves were linked with a move for Elliott.

Elliott, who joined Liverpool in 2019 from Fulham, struggled for regular game time in 2024/25.

It had been claimed that Liverpool were looking for at least £40 million to sell Elliott, which is likely out of Wolves’ budget.

However, the 22-year-old has been speaking about his situation again, and acknowledges that he may need to leave.

He said (via BBC Sport): “It’s just a situation that me and the team have to have a conversation about because I’m coming into an age now where I’m 22, I’m going to be 23 next season.

“I don’t really want to be wasting years on my career because it’s a short career. You don’t know what’s going to happen.

“I need to reflect. I need to see if I’m content in doing what I’m doing and how can I improve as a player because that’s the most important thing.”

Liverpool set to sign Florian Wirtz in blow for Elliott

Currently, Liverpool are in talks to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Reds have had a few bids knocked back so far, but it’s thought an offer of £126 million will be enough to get the Germany international.

Liverpool signing Wirtz would be bad news for Elliott, as he would be direct competition.

Wolves have yet to act on their interest in Elliott, likely because of that high asking price. But Wolves do feel Elliott could be a good fit for their starting XI, so maybe that will change in the coming weeks.

Perhaps they will come forward soon given Elliott has reiterated he may have to move, and the Wirtz transfer which should go through.

Ideally, Wanderers will negotiate that price down a fair bit for it to be worthwhile.
