What former Wolves striker Fabio Silva has been told about leaving Borussia Dortmund early

Fabio Silva finally left Wolves in the summer, but there is already speculation about his future at Borussia Dortmund.

The Portuguese striker left Wanderers to make a move to the Bundesliga, joining Dortmund in a deal worth around £23 million.

Fabio Silva sadly never cut it at Wolves, and had a string of loan spells away from Molineux.

His final one was at Las Palmas, and it was a very successful one from a Wolves perspective, as it allowed them to sell him for more money, amid interest from quite a few clubs who liked what they had seen.

Silva has had an interesting start at Dortmund so far.

It wasn’t long ago that Silva scored in the Champions League, and there were claims that he was pushing Serhou Guirassy for a starting place.

But then earlier this week, it was reported that Silva is already considering an exit from Dortmund, as he fears missing out on Portugal’s World Cup squad.

It was certainly surprising to see reports linking Silva with an early exit from Wolves.

This is his big new chapter, with a club who are in the Champions League.

But it seems Silva has itchy feet, and wants to be playing more than he is so that he doesn’t miss out on next year’s World Cup.

But Bild have published quotes from Dortmund’s sporting director today that Silva won’t be allowed to explore potential exit avenues in the next window.

Sebastian Kehl said: “The rumours have come up in the last few days, to be honest, Fabio wasn’t with me and told me that he wants to leave in the winter.

“I think every time he was substituted, he showed what qualities he has, how hungry he is. To be honest, it’s not the plan that we sell players in the winter that we rely on, that we rely on in the long term.”

Manager Niko Kovac added: “I’m very happy with Fábio on the whole. We know that we have a selection of very good players up front. He’s coming up short at the moment, that’s right.”

Fabio Silva may have chosen the wrong club

So it looks as though Silva will have to get his head down and try to make his move to Dortmund work.

It is surprising that he has reportedly considered trying to leave in order to get regular minutes ahead of the World Cup.

Silva always knew that the World Cup was taking place next year, and so, his choice of club was going to be extremely important.

Silva reportedly could have earned a higher salary at Roma, but felt the Dortmund project was more suited to him in the end, and told Wolves he wanted that move. A fee was then negotiated.

That was a risk, because Guirassy has been a top striker for Dortmund, and has continued to play the bulk of the games this season.

We will see if he can improve his situation, but it looks like he won’t be on the move.
