Fer Lopez is reportedly keen to stay at Celta Vigo this summer, and the Spanish club will endeavour to keep hold of him.

Fer Lopez joined his former club on loan in January, after struggling for minutes at Molineux.

There was real hype when Fer Lopez first signed for Wolves

“I have seen some of the best players in the world play football. I have never seen a footballer like him. He was literally incredible. From the first day, I knew he was going to be a superstar.”

He was unfancied by Vitor Pereira and then when Rob Edwards came in, his situation didn’t really change.

The decision was taken to loan Lopez back to Celta, who had sold him to Wolves for around £19 million in the summer.

And now, there’s been a claim from Spain regarding Lopez’s future.

Lopez wants Celta stay as Wolves face relegation

According to Faro de Vigo, the player himself is now keen to stay at Celta, reinforcing where he sees his immediate future.

Wolves, of course, are looking at playing in the Championship next season, which is naturally going to cast doubt on the futures of several players.

And seemingly, Lopez’s pathway is not clear.

But apparently Celta are now working to extend his stay and potentially secure his future again.

The Spanish club are looking to sign him on loan again at least, and have not ruled out a permanent move for the player.

But a permanent deal could be difficult to do, as Wolves would surely want to recoup what they paid.

Wolves paid £19m but never gave López a role

Wolves splashed around £19 million to sign Lopez, which felt like a lot of money at the time. After all, he had not long been on the scene in Celta’s first-team.

Appearances – 12
Minutes played – 364
Goals – 0
Assists – 1

Before leaving on loan, Lopez was one of the least used players in Wolves’ squad, making just 12 appearances and for a total of 364 minutes on the pitch.

He was undoubtedly not given as many opportunities as he should, but there can also be an argument that Lopez needed to show more.

As things currently stand, spending £19 million looks an atrocious recruitment decision, and it could be made to look much worse this summer if he leaves on loan again or permanently.
