What Fer Lopez himself wants to happen in January as Wolves seek mid-season loan exit

Wolves attacker Fer Lopez could be set for an early exit – and now there is word regarding what the player himself wants to happen.

Fer Lopez was Wolves’ first signing of the summer ahead of the 2025/26 season, joining the club for just under £20 million.

There was real hype when Fer Lopez first signed for Wolves

“I have seen some of the best players in the world play football. I have never seen a footballer like him. He was literally incredible. From the first day, I knew he was going to be a superstar.”

Hopes were high, but sadly it has been a miserable spell for the Spaniard.

Under Vitor Pereira he barely played, and his situation has not changed under Rob Edwards, although he’s recently been carrying an injury.

It was then reported earlier this week that Wolves are planning to loan Lopez out in January, which has been slammed by many supporters.

It remains to be seen where he’ll head, but one report has shared one club the player would like to join.

Lopez has shown flashes of creative quality in a Wolves shirt.

But there have also been games where he has really struggled, with his toughest moment coming against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

Pereira did not do him any favours that night, but that game remains the last involvement Lopez had for Wolves.

Celta Vigo have been linked with a January swoop for Lopez, but there are some hurdles for the player’s former club.

Apparently his salary, and the fact there are no slots currently open for him in their squad, make this a potentially complicated move.

But according to El Diario Deportes, Lopez is actually keen to go back to Celta, despite these hurdles that are currently in place.

Whether he gets his wish remains to be seen though. It is added in the report that Lopez has asked for Wolves’ help to make the move happen.

Potentially, this may point to Wolves paying a part of the player’s wages to bring a move to fruition.

Lopez loan is senseless

It is really difficult to comprehend why Wolves would loan Lopez out in January.

One of the biggest issues Wolves have had this season has been the supplying of the forwards – and Lopez actually does have creative attributions. He demonstrated this with a lovely through ball for Ladislav Krejci to score against Leeds.

The AFCON tournament starts soon and Wolves are going to be losing players – surely it would be more beneficial to keep hold of Lopez, with the potential for injuries to consider as well.

That Wolves are looking to loan Lopez out just feels as though they are looking for him to play his way into form with a view to making back their money next year.
