Wolves remain uncertain about Nelson Semedo’s future despite Vitor Pereira’s desire to keep the defender.
The Old Gold are in a difficult situation as Semedo’s contract expires at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
Pereira sees Semedo as an important part of his squad, with Wolves still undecided about what to do with the 31-year-old’s future beyond the summer.
Now club captain and the manager’s first choice right-back, the club have a pivotal call to make regarding whether they offer the Portugal international a new deal.

Benfica eager to sign Nelson Semedo
Time is running out for Wolves and Semedo, with the matter not made any less pressured as other clubs are looking at the former Barcelona jewel.
Semedo can agree a pre-contract with a club if he appreciates their offer but, the Old Gold can also offer the defender a new deal in a bid to keep him at Molineux.
It’s understood that Benfica are interested in Semedo, as are clubs in Saudi Arabia, with several options arising for the right-back.
The latest edition of Record, a Portugese newspaper, mentioned Benfica’s interest in the Wolves star, with ‘Nelson in sight’ written for all to see.
Record’s segment on Semedo’s future insists that Benfica president Rui Costa considers the defender a primary target for the club in the upcoming summer window.
Costa is charmed by the idea of recruiting the Portugal international on a free transfer, believing that he would fit seamlessly into Bruno Lage’s system.
Lage and Semedo’s paths crossed at Molineux and now, the duo could reunite as Benfica are keen to bring the 31-year-old back to Estadio da Luz.
Semedo’s future needs to be decided
Semedo is keeping his options open but, that doesn’t help Wolves or most importantly, Pereira.
The boss will want to plan ahead for his squad, something that is difficult to do when the club captain’s future remains very much up in the air.
What’s difficult about Semedo is that he’s one of Wolves’ highest earners, making the idea of a pay rise or, keeping him on the books as a 31-year-old, something that requires discussion.
Benfica think Semedo is perfect for Lage, which could trigger the defender’s former club to make a move, with the situation needing to be addressed one way or another.
