‘We’re very busy’: Matt Hobbs shares what Wolves are doing now after signing Matt Doherty

Wolves have officially signed Matt Doherty on a free transfer.

The club have brought back the Republic of Ireland international, who is the first addition for the club this summer.

Doherty was a free agent having left Atletico Madrid at the end of last season.

Before his spell in Spain, he spent a couple of years at Tottenham Hotspur, but struggled to really nail down his place.

After leaving Molineux in a £15 million deal, he is now back – and he’s looking to help Wolves build on last season’s 13th place finish.

And fans will be hoping the club will be following this signing up with a couple more…

Matt Hobbs says Wolves are being proactive right now

Sporting director Matt Hobbs has given an interview following the capture of Doherty.

He’s a busy man at the moment, which is good to hear.

He has now explained what Wolves are doing after landing Doherty.

He said: “We’re very busy, very proactive in trying to bring some players in and trying to move on some players for who it’s time for new opportunities. We need to be in a profit, so this transfer window we have to be realistic, it’s not a simple one for us.

“It’s a natural transition for the group, some players are coming to the end of their cycle with us. But we’re still active, trying to improve. We’re trying to get the balance of the squad right, both in makeup of age and personality – one the fans can get behind and one Julen is excited by and believes in.”

Wolves must keep the momentum going

So Doherty is over the line, and it’s good for Wolves fans to finally have an incoming to talk about.

The re-signing of Doherty hasn’t gone down well with absolutely every fan.

But there are definitely some valid reasons for bringing him back, especially given the current financial predicament.

It’s important now for Wolves to keep going.

Hobbs has suggested that there are other targets being lined up. In recent days we’ve had reports about interest in Nico Elvedi and Aaron Cresswell.

Hopefully, more deals can be tied up in the coming days and Lopetegui can have a decent amount of time working with his new players in pre-season.
