‘We are a joke’… Wolves fans dumbfounded over what’s now been claimed about Tommy Doyle

Tommy Doyle could be on his way out of Wolves having struggled for minutes at Molineux.

The 23-year-old signed for Wolves last summer on a permanent deal from Manchester City, having spent the previous season on loan at Molineux.

Doyle cost Wolves just over £4 million to sign, and the hope was that Doyle would really kick on in 2024/25.

However, the campaign didn’t really pan out in the way he had hoped, with Joao Gomes and Andre – and Mario Lemina when he was here – all preventing him from playing regularly.

In 2025 under Vitor Pereira, Doyle barely featured, starting just one game in the Premier League.

As was perhaps to be expected, Doyle is now being linked with an exit from Wolves.

Sunderland and Wrexham are both interested in Doyle, and it’s the Black Cats who are currently in pole position.

But there is one aspect of this potential move that has some Wolves fans scratching their heads.

In some ways, Doyle has been really unfortunate at Wolves.

He has two fantastic players playing in his position, with Gomes and Andre both very durable and consistent as well.

That has made life difficult for him, and Pereira also has seemingly just not fancied him.

The Portuguese has favoured more physical players during his time at Molineux, and Doyle’s exit from Wolves on some kind of basis now looks to be only a matter of time.

@N0XX_WWFC said: “We are terrible at selling players.”

@RussellMackuin added: “£3m, no way.”

@nlyn73525 said: “So, £1.5m with City’s sell-on clause? Absolutely pathetic.”

@wanderersgloba1 said: “Sunderland will be getting themselves an absolute bargain for £3m.”

£3m would be a laughable fee for Doyle

If it’s true that Wolves would only be looking for around £3 million to sell Doyle this summer, then that is concerning.

Wolves only bought Doyle for just over £4 million, and there is surely no way he can have depreciated, despite him not playing particularly regularly.

He’s got a contract until 2028.

He may not be in favour with Pereira, but last season Doyle clearly showed he is a Premier League-level player.

It is also worth noting that Manchester City hold a 50% sell-on clause over Doyle, so Wolves selling for just £3.5 million would see the club take just £1.5 million of that sale, which is embarrassing.

If Sunderland really want Doyle, Wolves have to set their asking price considerably higher. Yes, he may want to go, but £3 million for a player of his quality and potential is far too low.
