Vitor Pereira agrees to make transfer U-turn at Wolves but only if one thing happens

Wolves are waiting to peak in the January transfer window and with just two days remaining, time is running out for Vitor Pereira to bolster his squad.

Wolves are one of multiple clubs in a desperation situation at the bottom of the table. Pereira wanted to sign three more players as a result after landing Emmanuel Agbadou.

Sadly, the Ivorian remains the Portuguese’s only arrival this window, with Pereira directing a subtle dig at Fosun for the club’s lack of urgency.

Supporters are well aware that the owners are unwilling to invest significant funds into the squad and would prefer to asset strip rather than sign quality talent.

That being said, Luke Cundle’s £1m transfer to Millwall on Friday remains the only departure so far, though Pereira is open to letting others leave.

Vitor Pereira will let Carlos Forbs leave if a ‘quality’ replacement is signed

Signed on transfer deadline day in the summer, Carlos Forbs was seen as an exciting talent arriving on loan from Ajax.

Matt Hobbs spoke highly of Forbs after he joined Molineux, claiming his move was years in the making, but now he’s perhaps filled with regret.

The 20-year-old hasn’t scored or assisted in a Wolves shirt and only accumulated 232 minutes of action in the Premier League.

Ajax were open to recalling Forbs as a result, and it appears Pereira is prepared to sanction his early exit but only if a ‘quality’ replacement is signed.

“If a player wants to leave because he wants to play more, I respect it,” Pereira told the E&S. “But I need a replacement because the squad is very short, and a replacement with quality.

“If we don’t have this replacement, I cannot allow anybody to go.

“I understand the situation of the players and to be happy they need to play, but I said if we have a quality replacement I will say yes.”

Capturing a winger is one of three positions Pereira wants to strengthen alongside centre-back and midfielder, but time is running out to find a quality addition for each role.

Pereira ‘confident’ of new signings

It’s completely embarrassing that Wolves have only signed one talent with just two days left in the window, yet Pereira remains confident of new players coming through the door.

“I’m still confident,” he added. “I feel the club is trying and I’m trying to push.

“They are trying and a lot of times it depends on the opportunities in the window.

“We are trying and if I feel we will do nothing, I will be here with another face, but I’m still (smiling). We’ll see and I hope.”

Despite the current bleak situation, it’s admirable that the Wolves manager is still upbeat about their chances of adding quality to the squad.

It promises to be a frantic ending to an underwhelming transfer window, with the next two days perhaps deciding their fate.
